Artist Statement:
The creative process for me is a story that unfolds to reveal autobiographical and universal themes.
My work has an element of mystery though I feel that a strong storyline exists even when it does not fully reveal itself. I follow the images as they emerge through the creative process. At times one 'page' resonates with personal experience and other times the imagery as a whole connects in a profound way. With careful attention and intuition a story comes together to be heard, transporting the viewer to an imaginary realm that is both intimately personal and universal.
Occasionally feelings shift with the creation of an image, life is reflected, lessons are given shape, questions are released into the space of the canvas or dreams are held by one of my dolls.
The work I have compiled for 'apte' is centred around themes I am currently exploring. From my initial play with abstract shapes and colour emerged figures holding trees that over time transformed into a fan. The fan being a symbol of new life and the different paths that fate and destiny can take. From this followed images of a castle, a dancer, a lion and more.
I offer my creations so they can find a place in the hearts of others.
